For a film to make sense, people have to think analytically to make sure it actually make sense! When deciding on themes or script ideas, we have to make sure it makes logical sense and we can convey the whole story in a short amount of time

When thinking about different ideas, they can become quite complicated quite quickly! In a four day workshop, we don’t have time to train lions to talk or to make spaceships fly, but what we do have time to do is to critically assess the problems we are facing and figure out ways around them for the same effect.

In problem solving with critical thinking and analysis, participants learn how to think about ideas in different ways to fully grasp the issue their film is about. This applies to how they are able to write a resolution into their script.

Our workshops are based around these ideas. At every workshop, participants are coming up with their own film ideas, working on the best ways to make these a reality in film.

Not everyone can agree on everything, especially in film-making! However, when creating a film, people learn to reason wit one another and solve their problems by creating new, efficient ideas.

At The Offshoot Foundation, both the participants and facilitators are learning constantly. Film-making is an ever-changing profession. We are able to create new ways of learning, all done through the use of participants actively taking part and control of their own film.

Film-making is not always easy, and can sometimes be stressful. However, in building resilience and working on flexibility in the film-making process, participants are able to deal with their stress tolerance and ensure they are always one step ahead of what is going on.

Through-out our workshops, participants take turns in acting, filming, doing the sound, wearing headphones and directing, among many other roles. This allows everyone to take charge at some point and build on their leadership skills. Also, it allows them to start to understand the influence they have when they are in certain roles, and how this works hand-in-hand with other skills, such as active learning and problem-solving.

This includes skills such as communication, teamwork, resilience, time management, presentation skills, and so many more.

In film-making, there’s a vast amount of technological skills that one gains. This is from camera techniques, to sound monitoring, to script writing.

In post-production, participants actively learn how to edit using different editing programmes to design their own, original film.
